give me money doesn't work

the ask is the last move, not the first one... and the show is how you earn it.

saturday. the house was quiet and i spent most of it turning a playbook into software.

a few days ago i put a book up on my site. one of the working titles was give me money doesn't work... and that line is the whole book.

here's what i mean. most founders run three separate machines. one for sales, one for marketing, one for the raise. three lists, three tones of voice, three ways of asking strangers for something.

and underneath, all three machines are asking a stranger to hand over something they'd rather keep.

nobody wakes up wanting to give you anything.

so flip it and lead with something they want, like a seat on a show and a page with their story on it that they'll share with their own network for free.

i've watched this all year from the host's chair. a cold email asking for a meeting gets ignored. the same person, invited to talk about the thing they're proudest of, says yes in an hour. they prep for it, they post the episode to their own people, and somewhere in the debrief they ask what you do.

you didn't pitch. you gave. the selling happened on its own.

that's the one motion. you stop running three departments and build one habit.... make other people look good in public, on purpose.

think of a dinner party. you don't knock on doors asking people to buy you dinner. you cook, you invite, you seat people next to someone useful. by dessert they're asking how they can help.

the raise works the same way. investors are people with a calendar and an ego, same as buyers. invite them to share what they've learned and you're no longer the founder asking for a check. you're the host who put them on stage.

long term this matters more every month. ai makes asking cheap, so every inbox is drowning in asks. the scarce thing isn't the message anymore. it's the reason to say yes.

so this weekend i stopped explaining the motion and started building it into tools, so a founder can run it without me in the room. it's rough and it's new, but the idea underneath isnt.

if you want the long version, it's all in the spotlight... free, no form, read it on your phone.

so look at your last ten outreach emails. how many of them gave something before they asked for something?
