the bitcoin narrative reset of 2026

crypto crashes feel like death. they usually mark the end of one story and the beginning of another.

February 2026 is a narrative reset.

The story was: "Bitcoin is the new macro play. Institutional capital is arriving. Stablecoins are the settlement layer."

Now the story is: "Stablecoins are fragile. Institutions are exiting the basis trade. Bitcoin is still volatile."

Both stories can be true. What changes is which story the media tells and which narrative new capital believes.

The macro hedge funds who were happy with 17% annualized have left. The capital that shows up next will be different capital, with different expectations.

Every cycle is like this. The exit of one type of capital is the entrance of another.

2017: ICO capital exited, DeFi capital showed up. 2021: DeFi capital exited, "Bitcoin as a settlement layer" capital showed up. 2026: Macro hedge fund capital exits, and [blank] capital is next.

I don't know what fills that blank. But I know the people who figure it out early will have the best access to price.

The narrative resets feel like disasters when they're happening. Usually they're just the market updating which story is true.

What narrative about your space is about to reset? And what does that mean for capital flow?
