the truckers and the why
working with a bitcoin founder this month.
working with a bitcoin founder this month.
he had been pitching his product for a year. cold technical pitch. protocol architecture. settlement layer comparisons. fee structure. transaction throughput. all the right facts in all the right slides.
investors politely passed every time.
during a coaching session he mentioned in passing why he started the company.
he had watched a group of truckers in his country have their bank accounts frozen for protesting government policy. legitimate accounts. ordinary people. small business owners. one moment they had access to their savings. the next moment they didnt.
he never forgot it.
when he told that story his voice changed. his hands moved differently. his eyes looked different.
that story should be his slide one. it never appeared in his deck.
this is the most common mistake bitcoin founders make. they try to be too rational. they pitch the technology because they think the technology is what matters. they hide the political and emotional fuel that drove them to build it.
investors dont fund technology in a vacuum.
they fund a founder. and the founder is the technology plus the story plus the conviction.
strip the story and what you have is a competent technical pitch that any other team could in theory replicate. why fund you specifically.
the answer is the truckers.
the answer is the time when you realized that money in a bank you didnt control was permission masquerading as ownership. the moment when you stopped trusting that the rules would stay the rules.
that moment is your founder market fit.
nobody else in the room had it. nobody else can fake it. and it is exactly the kind of conviction that produces founders who do not stop when the cycle turns and the funding dries up and the regulators show up at your door.
investors know this. they fund it consciously. they say things like "we look for founders with deep founder market fit" but what they actually mean is.... we look for founders who saw something happen that they cannot unsee.
so the work is not to hide that moment. the work is to put it in the first thirty seconds.
"my country froze the bank accounts of a thousand peaceful protesters. that is the moment i decided to build money that no government can freeze."
two sentences. now your entire deck makes sense in a different way.
the rest of the pitch is just engineering.
so look at your own pitch this morning.
where is the moment you cannot unsee?
