Sunny Ray sits down with Domenica Pilo of Avanti Creativo for an honest look at what it takes to build and sustain a business. Pilo describes her agency as a growth partner that brings specialists in web, SEO, paid ads, social media and branding under one coordinated strategy, so clients avoid the gaps that appear when separate vendors never talk to each other. She traces her path from building a website at age 10 and freelancing in high school to launching her own agency during the pandemic, when early AI tools let a small team do more. Pilo argues AI should enhance human strategy rather than replace it, especially in copywriting, where psychology and emotional intelligence matter. She also speaks candidly about early six figure months followed by starting over from zero, the lessons of a difficult business partnership, and the eight months she spent rebuilding herself after losing nearly everything. The conversation closes with how she picks long term clients, what she now says no to, and where listeners can find her online.
Domenica Pilo shares how she lost everything, rebuilt from zero, and why AI should enhance marketing strategy, not replace it.
What problem does Avanti Creativo solve?
We partner with companies as a growth partner, whether you are taking an idea to market or building your company's valuation. What we solve is the lack of a unified strategy. I bring specialists from different areas together under one house, so your website, SEO, ads, social media and branding actually work together instead of leaking results.
What did you see in AI that other business owners were missing?
When ChatGPT first appeared during the pandemic, I saw that we could get far more done with fewer people and less time. That let me start an agency with low overhead. But AI is not a replacement. It is an enhancement to the strategies you already have in house, not a set it and forget it solution.
Why can't AI handle your copywriting?
AI understands trends and patterns, but not human psychology. Human behavior keeps changing, and good copy has to target today's specific pain points, desires and fears. Even if you train it on past data, you still need to refine it. A good copywriter is one of the hardest people to find in marketing.
What is the funniest lie in the idea that business is a straight line to success?
It is not a straight line. There are many highs and lows, especially in the early years. The more you grow, the bigger the problems get, but you also build the courage and nervous system to hold them. I made six figures in my first six months with my partner, then had to start over from zero.
How do you tell whether a potential client is a good long term fit?
I look at how willing they are to innovate and listen. The worst case is when I have to go through layers of marketing staff and never reach the visionary, so no innovation happens. I want a leader who brings new ideas and accepts that what worked six months ago may not work today.
What was the first thing you did when you had to start over from zero?
I worked on myself. A business is a reflection of who you are behind the scenes. I had lost important people, my finances and even my home. For eight months I focused on rebuilding, understanding my purpose and strengthening my nervous system, while still running the company behind the scenes.
What do you say no to now that you might have accepted earlier?
I say no to cheap clients who will not pay a reasonable amount for their own success, impatient clients, since marketing strategies take time, and anyone who will not innovate and just wants a copy and paste model. I would rather have fewer, higher quality clients I can work with long term.
