Bitcoin vs Ethereum
Here’s one of the most interesting debates I’ve ever heard on bitcoin vs. ethereum. It’s between Vitalik, ethereum founder, and Samson, chief strategy officer at blockstream.
I found this statement by Vitalik to be the most insightful comment in the entire interview. It clearly describes the value proposition behind bitcoin and also shares some of the honest struggles that the ethereum community faces such as “not knowing what it stands for”. vitalik says:
"I think one of the great strengths that bitcoin has it presents itself as a holistic philosophy that combines together ideas around the world and economics and politics and finance with a clear picture what bitcoin is going to do about it, ideas around austrian economics, concerns around money printing, concerns about governments having power over money, concerns about governments having power over the payments layer. Here is bitcoin this base asset and payment system that is not vulnerable to control by governments in the same way.
if you look at ethereum on the other hand, it definitely doesn't have this unified narrative....it does kind of create a community that sometimes has a bit more of kind of not knowing what it stands for at certain times and that's something that you know I think a lot of people are definitely kind of trying to move past and get a clear picture for but it's definitely not a journey that we're anywhere close to fully figuring out."
Right after watching the video, I tweeted about it and the father of the father of ethereum (Vitalik’s dad) asked me what my key take aways were. So I shared my thoughts with him!
