automate the trade, not the handshake

every deck says ai now... the founder who keeps a human at the door is the one investors remember.

two tapings today said the same thing from opposite ends of the world.

the first was a brokerage founder. his firm runs an ai assistant on the phones after hours. it speaks a bunch of languages, it's trained on years of their own broker calls, and here's the part i loved.... it introduces itself as an ai in its first sentence.

and he still keeps a human on the reins. every time. he pointed at the flash crash as the reason. machines feeding on machines with nobody watching.

we called the episode everyone automates the trade, nobody automates the service. that line is going to age well.

the second was an investor who backs israeli founders at the seed stage. his fund's line fits in six words. ai is a tool, not a strategy.

sit with that if you're raising right now.

every deck that lands in an investor's inbox this month says ai on slide two. every one. the founder thinks it's the differentiator. the investor reads it like a restaurant bragging that it has a stove.

so what's left to stand out with? the thing ai can't fake.... the relationship, meaning the person who answers when the customer calls and who comes back to an investor three months later with proof of what they promised.

everyone is racing to automate the front door. it's backwards. automate the kitchen. the prep, the research, the list building, the follow up reminders, the transcripts. then put your best human at the door.

it's like a good restaurant. the dishwasher can be a machine. the person who greets you by name cannot.

i run my own business this way and i'm not shy about it. software does the grunt work behind the scenes. but every guest, every client, every investor meets a person who listened.

the brokerage founder said something near the end that stuck. in five years ai makes his whole industry more efficient, and it still doesn't replace the human relationship. it raises the bar for it.

long term that's the trade. ai drops the cost of doing everything. it doesn't drop the cost of trust. trust gets more expensive, because there's less of it to go around.

so open your pitch deck tonight. is ai your strategy... or is it the tool that frees you up to be the strategy?
