the hundred conversations before the check

a venture firm raised $5.75 billion for ai this week, and the founder i taped today got his round by asking a hundred people about the problem first.

a venture firm closed $5.75 billion on wednesday to put into ai. $1.75 billion for seed and early stage, $4 billion for growth. one of its partners said ai native companies are scaling faster than anything they've backed before.

so the money is out there. lots of it.

here's what most founders do with that headline. they polish the deck, build a list of every fund that touched ai this year, and start blasting.

then they wonder why nobody writes back.

i taped an episode this afternoon with a founder on his fourth company. he told me how he raised this one, and it's the opposite of the blast.

before he built the product he went on the road for ninety days. he met more than a hundred people in his industry. he didn't pitch them. he asked them if the problem was real.

every single one said yes.

and then something funny happened.... the people who confirmed the problem became the people on his cap table.

think about what that means. he wasn't raising. he was listening. the round was a side effect.

it's like planting a garden. you don't walk outside in july and demand tomatoes. you put seeds in the ground in april and you water them when nobody is watching.

he also told me what went wrong the first time around. his first company sold faster than it could serve. so now he watches the balance between revenue and operations like a hawk.... he'd rather grow slower than make promises his team can't keep.

that's the same discipline most founders skip when they raise. they treat investors like a vending machine. insert deck, recieve check.

but the money in that headline isn't going to the loudest decks. it's going to founders who already have a relationship when they ask.

that's why we built an outbound engine for founders who raise around giving first. you own every investor relationship. we run the technology and the motion. nobody can promise you a check.... but you can stop showing up as a stranger.

long term, capital is a commodity. $5.75 billion this week, more next month. what doesn't scale is trust you built before you needed it.

so who are the hundred people you should be asking about the problem right now.... and why haven't you called the first one?
