a chip company just paid $8.2 billion for a map of reality, so what's the real map of your company

most ai projects that die don't die on the algorithm, they die on the work nobody wrote down.

amd just agreed to pay $8.2 billion for a lab that builds world models....

models that try to understand physical reality. the first product builds simulated environments that robots can train in. a chip company writing a check that size tells you where it thinks the next fight is.

not in the chip. in the map of the world the chip runs.

i had that on my mind when i sat down on the show today with a founder who helps old companies adopt ai. not companies born on the cloud. companies with decades of data rotting in spreadsheets and email threads.

one story stopped me. a client with a few hundred documented steps in a core process. when the team mapped what people did all day, there were a few thousand.

same company. same process. two different realities.

and the part that stuck. most ai projects that die don't die on the algorithm. they die on the human layer. people, then data, then technology, then agents.... in that order. flip the order and you've bought an expensive guess.

everyone thinks the robot or the agent is the hard part. the hard part is knowing what the work is.

a robot trained in a fake room falls over in a real one. an agent trained on your org chart falls over in your real company.

now bring it home to sales. you have a playbook somewhere. a doc that says what your team does on a first call. go sit in on five calls this week and count the steps. i'll bet you a coffee the doc and the calls don't match

that gap is where your pipeline leaks. not in the tool. not in the list. in the stuff nobody wrote down.

i spent eight years building robots before bitcoin. the controller was never the problem. the model of the plant was. if the model is wrong, every clever thing you stack on top makes it worse faster.

so what does this mean long term....

the winners of this era won't be the ones with the shiniest agents. they'll be the ones who wrote down how the work gets done, then automated the truth insted of the fiction. if you want a starting point, here's the sales playbook i wrote. then hold it up against your real calls.

the amd deal is a bet that a good map of reality is worth $8.2 billion.

what's the real map of your company worth to you?
