a million dollars apart on the same deck
the appendix and the chart told two different stories.
i red teamed a raise deck this week where the same year's revenue appeared twice, a million dollars apart. the chart said one thing. the appendix said another. growth was stated as three different multiples across adjacent slides, and the founder held two different titles on two different pages.
none of this was dishonesty. it was drift. decks get edited late at night, slide by slide, and nobody reconciles the whole document against itself. but an analyst builds the model off the appendix while the partner remembers the chart, and when those two people compare notes, the conversation is over.
the fix costs an afternoon. pick one metric, label it everywhere, and let the gap between bookings and recognized revenue be an argument you make on purpose instead of a contradiction someone finds.
if a stranger read your deck against itself tonight, would every number agree?
