the biggest ipo of the year picked a window, and your december is not a date
waiting feels like prudence, but it's the most expensive line item nobody books.
anthropic is reportedly lining up an ipo for as soon as mid november....
before thanksgiving, according to bloomberg, with valuation talk that starts with a t. whatever you think of the price, notice the shape. a company that size picked a window and is working backward from it.
that's the opposite of what i hear on most calls.
today a founder told me he loves the idea. his words. he can see what a show plus outreach could do for his media presence and the relationships he wants to build. then he said he's targeting december to lock it in.
i like him and i believe him. i've also heard december a hundred times.
december is a mood, not a date. a date has a day of the week attached and someone who feels it when it slips. a mood just drifts into january once the holidays get loud.
everyone thinks waiting is free. it's the most expensive line item nobody books.
here's the math nobody does. this kind of outbound takes about six weeks to warm before it carries real volume. decide in december and you start in january, you're warm in february, and the conversations you could have had in november happen in march. a whole season of relationships you don't get back, and the cost never shows up on an invoice
it's like planting a tree. the best time was last spring. the second best time is not after the holidays.
and notice what he didn't say. he didn't say the price was wrong. he didn't say the idea was wrong. timing, not value. that's the easiest objection to fix and the hardest one to see, because it feels like prudence.
the companies going public this fall don't wait for perfect. they pick a date, tell the world, and make the work fit the window. you can do the same thing at your size. pick the date. tell your team. let the date pull you.
so what does this mean long term....
the founders who compound are the ones who start the slow things early. outreach, a show, a reputation. none of them reward a december start in december. if you want to see the motion before you decide, here's how the engine runs. no pressure, no guarantees, just the map.
december is about eight weeks away.
what would you need to see this week to stop wating for it?
