a machine cracked enigma and nobody wants to have dinner with it
ai just passed turing's harder test, and the part of your business it can't touch got more valuable overnight.
an ai model just cracked an enigma message that had stumped researchers since 2005.
the person who validated it said the model did in two days what would take a human researcher weeks or months. a model from another lab broke a different unsolved message a few days earlier.
turing's famous test was whether you could tell the machine from the human. his harder test was the code. this week the machines passed that one too.
so what's left for us?
i spent friday morning on a call with a man who has hosted a show for senior leaders for years. he never sold a single ad on it. not one.
and he credits millions in revenue to it.
how? the guests. every episode is a relationship. you give someone the mic, you make them look good, you learn what keeps them up at night. some of them end up working with you. nobody got pitched.
it's the same thing i see on my own show. roughly one in ten to twenty guests becomes a client. never because of the ask. always because of the hour before it.
then he said the line i've been repeating all weekend. nobody is building a bot that takes your client to dinner.
think about that. the machines can break wartime codes now. they can write your emails, sort your leads, draft your proposals. the transactional layer is getting eaten. good.
but the more of it they eat, the more the part they cant touch is worth. trust. memory. the fact that you showed up when you didn't have to.
it's like salt. when everything gets cheap and bland, the thing that carries flavor is worth more, not less.
most founders are reading this week's news backwards. they think ai means fewer conversations.... automate the outreach, remove the human, scale the volume.
i think it means the opposite. let the machine do the plumbing so you can spend your hours where the machine can't follow you. in the room. on the mic. at the table.
that's the idea behind giving before you ask. the tech runs the outreach. you own every relationship it opens.
long term, intelligence will cost almost nothing. a relationship will cost what it always has.... your time and your attention.
so if a model can crack enigma over a weekend, what are you doing this week that only you can do?
