the follow up that waited two months and still closed

the model you use isn't your edge... your memory of people is.

google opened gemini 4 argon to paying subscribers yesterday. two weeks ago it was a model only a closed group of security partners could touch. now it's in the app for anyone on a pro or ultra plan.

my feed is full of people ranking it. benchmarks, price per token, who's ahead this month.

here's my contrarian take. the model you use is not your edge. next month there'll be a better one, and your competitor will have it the same morning you do.

what they won't have is your memory of people.

i heard the proof on a call today. a founder i'm having on the show told me how he became a customer of someone else's service. he went on a podcast. nothing was pitched. two months later the host reached back out with an offer that fit what he needed at that moment... and he bought.

two months. not two days. no ten email sequence the week after the episode.

everyone thinks follow up is about speed. strike while it's hot. but he wasn't going cold while the host waited... he was ripening. the first conversation gave him something. the second one asked for something, at the moment it made sense.

it's an avocado on the counter. cut it the day you buy it and you get a rock. wait till it gives a little under your thumb and it's perfect.

that's the whole reason we run the show the way we do. you give first... the spotlight, the episode, the clips. you remember what the person said they were fighting with. and when you have something that fits that exact fight, you bring it up. not before.

ai helps here, i'll give it that. it can hold the notes from every call and remind you in december what someone told you in october. but the judgement of when to ask is still yours.

the founder on my call asked how to run that for his own company. the three ways we set it up are on the offer page... flat fee, you keep every relationship, and nobody can promise you who says yes.

long term, the models keep getting cheaper and smarter until they're like tap water. everyone has them. the scarce thing will be trust that compounds over months, not clicks.

so look at your last ten conversations... who are you rushing, and who are you ready to give something first?
